Dr Adedeji Okubadejo
Deji is a medical doctor who qualified in Lagos, Nigeria in 1987 and has had experience in the NHS acute sector, the UK independent healthcare sector as well as in NHS clinical commissioning and NHS regional boards.
He worked for over 20 years as a consultant in anaesthesia and chronic pain management in a big tertiary NHS hospital where he also undertook roles in clinical leadership and management as clinical director and associate medical director.
His leadership and board roles continued in the independent healthcare sector as Group Medical Director and Responsible Officer in addition to ongoing clinical work in this sector. He has been part of NHS regional and national work streams in the regulation and support of doctors and has held NHS board positions on the governing body of Clinical Commissioning Groups.
He also is currently a non-executive member of an NHS Integrated Care Board that is responsible for £3 billion worth of health and care expenditure. He holds fellowships and postgraduate academic qualifications in anaesthesia, chronic pain and management including an MBA from Keele Management School.
His community work includes being the chairman of the Europe branch of the alumni association of his former Nigerian high school between 2018 and 2022. During this time, having noticed a significant drop in standards and educational outcomes in this previously high-performing school, he developed an educational quality master plan to improve the quality of teaching and learning at the school.
The implementation of this plan began in 2019 and has produced dramatic results so far. He leads an expert team that provides ongoing support to the school working with the academic team and the
board of governors.
Deji is currently the chair of OBIC UK, leading the team to make an impact in improving the educational attainment of children from the black and ethnic minority population in the UK. Deji has also been on the leadership team of his local church for over two decades. In his spare time, he is a semi-pro photographer with an interest in landscapes, wildlife and culture.
